New Study Finds Most Virginia Voters Favor Expanding the Commonwealth’s Natural Gas Capacity to Lower Costs and Meet Rising Energy Demand
4 in 5 Virginians Say Electricity Prices Will Inform Their Choices for Candidates on the Ballot in November
(Richmond, VA) — A new survey released today by Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future found that Virginia voters support proposals to increase the availability of natural gas across the state to help improve energy affordability.
Key findings from the poll include:
• 80% of likely Virginia voters say that the price of electricity will be important to their vote.
• 75% of likely Virginia voters support a balanced energy approach that includes partnering natural gas with renewable energy resources.
• 64% of Virginians are more likely to vote for candidates who support building more natural gas power plants to help address growing demand and to lower prices.
“Virginia is experiencing a rise in electricity costs as energy demand skyrockets,” said former Ohio Congressman and Natural Allies Leadership Council Co-Chair Tim Ryan. “The best way forward is to implement a balanced energy approach that includes natural gas and allows alternative power sources to further develop. Energy affordability and reliability must remain a top priority.”
“Energy affordability remains a key concern for Virginians,” added Doug Usher, a partner and insights practice leader at Forbes Tate Partners, who conducted the poll. “If the state wants to stay on top of growing energy demands while keeping prices affordable, it must commit to advancing a comprehensive energy approach.”
The poll was commissioned by Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future and conducted by Forbes Tate Partners, a bipartisan government relations firm. The data is based on an online survey of 779 likely 2025 voters residing in the state of Virginia, from October 1-7, as part of a larger poll of registered voters residing in the state.
