Natural Allies Statement on 2026 Virginia Legislative Session
Washington, D.C. — Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future (Natural Allies) Executive Director Susan Waller issued the following statement on today’s opening of the 2026 Virginia legislative session.
“As the 2026 Virginia legislative session commences, the General Assembly and the Governor-elect have an enormous and urgent opportunity to improve affordability, lower costs, and boost economic growth for Virginians by advancing policies that expand the Commonwealth’s energy diversity, leveraging natural gas and renewables to meet the state’s growing energy needs.
“Virginia legislators must strike the right balance of energy sources to reduce electric bills for small businesses and families, improve grid capacity and reliability, and catalyze Virginia’s economic prosperity. Let’s get to work.”
Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) joined Natural Allies in November as a National Leadership Council Co-Chair alongside former Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), former Congressman Kendrick Meek (D-FL), former Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH), and former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (D).
Working together, these national leaders aim to elevate the role of natural gas in reducing emissions, tackling climate change, lowering the cost of electricity for hardworking Americans, and meeting the growing demand for energy in a sustainable fashion. During his time as governor, McAuliffe pursued an “all-of-the-above” energy strategy that included nuclear and natural gas, while increasing solar, pushing for offshore wind, and calling for state government-led efficiency.
